![]() NEWS RELEASE EMBARGOED FOR RELEASE June 28, 2007 CONTACT: Gina Madden, ACCESS College Foundation (757) 962-6113 Tammy Lindquist, Tidewater Parent Magazine (757) 222-3905 Lisa Schauer Mullins, APR (757) 460-1251 ACCESS College Foundation, Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent in search of Teens at the Top -- Scholarship Award, Day of Exposure in field of interest, and recognition planned-- (Norfolk, VA) -- ACCESS College Foundation, Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent Magazine are seeking nominations for a new awards program -- On the Cusp of Excellence: Teens at the Top -- to recognize remarkable and everyday achievements of Hampton Roads youth. Teens at the Top is an awards program designed to motivate and encourage young people toward success. The program includes a day of exposure in the winner's field of interest, recognition in Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent and an awards ceremony. All Hampton Roads area students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible. Nominations will be accepted from ACCESS Advisors, teachers, counselors or youth group leaders in the following Fields of Excellence: Fine Arts, Journalism, Community Service, Education, the Environment, Technology, Politics and Against All Odds (Overcoming Obstacles). To kick-off the awards program, The Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent Scholarship for Journalism, a one-time scholarship award combined with an ACCESS Scholarship, will be awarded for $2,000 on June 28th at the ACCESS Scholarship Awards ceremony to be held at the Chesapeake Conference Center. The scholarship will go to a student pursuing a career in the field of journalism. The winner will also receive a day of exposure working at Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent. ACCESS has Advisors in all 29 public high schools in South Hampton Roads. Applications will be accepted from October 1st until December 31st. Each winner will receive a day of exposure in their field of interest. These unique experiences will be donated by local businesses, media and cultural organizations. Additionally, winners will be featured in the May 2008 issues of Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent and honored at a special awards ceremony held by ACCESS College Foundation, Port Folio Weekly and Tidewater Parent. non-profit organization, founded in 1988 to help students in South Hampton
Roads go to college, regardless of ability to pay. Now concluding its 19th
year, ACCESS has assisted more than 50,000 local high school students with
college planning and has leveraged $175 million in financial aid for a
