Describe yourself in three words. Quiet. Caring. Patient.

How did you first get involved with ACCESS? Prior to working for ACCESS, I was an Admissions Counselor for a local university.  During my tenure there I worked with several of the High School ACCESS Advisors in helping to get students into my institution.  I was very impressed with ACCESS and the mission of the foundation, so when I was ready to transition off of the recruiting road of Admissions, I inquired to see if ACCESS was hiring.  Being hired as a College Success Advisor seemed like a very natural step and I was beyond excited to join the team.

What is your most memorable/rewarding moment working with ACCESS? There are so many! If I have to choose one, I must say that it was upon my return from maternity leave with my first child.  A couple of my senior college students were asking me about the baby and I was telling them all about how much I love motherhood.  They looked at me oddly and one said matter of factly “umm you do know that you were already a Mom before she was born, right? You’ve been like a mom to us for years now.” It meant a lot because you don’t always know just how much you mean to your students – only how much they mean to you. It really touched me.

What is the most important piece of advice you would give to a college-bound student?  Get involved!! College is so much more than just class and books. It’s a time to discover who you are and that discovery happens with exploration of clubs, organizations, new hobbies, and new friends. The more connected you are to the school through involvement, the more likely you are to enjoy it.
